That’s Bootleg … Nike Wannabes and the Worst Bootlegs Ever

We bumped into an old lady wearing these kicks in the Lower East Side recently. We asked the Golden Girl if we could take a picture of her blinged out sneakers. They looked like imitation Nikes for a minute, but the swoosh is a little off.

World Cup Wednesday: Nike Makes Team Jerseys From Recycled Bottles, Nabs Bootlegs

We know you football (soccer!) fans love the Fred Perry World Cup polos, but the players will be wearing Nike jerseys on the fields.

Nike World Cup 2010 Brazil

At the 2010 World Cup, all of Nike‘s sponsored teams (including Brazil, Portugal, and the Netherlands) will be wearing jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles.

  • Each polyester jersey is made of up to 8 plastic bottles
  • This reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared with manufacturing virgin polyester
  • This kept almost13 million plastic bottles (nearly 560,000 pounds of trash!) from going into landfills
  • … that’s more than enough bottles to cover 29 football fields.
  • If you laid the bottles Nike used end to end, they would span more than 3,000 kilometers (about 1,860 miles) – longer than the South African coastline!

Nike World Cup 2010

In other Nike news: Monday, April 26th was World Intellectual Property Rights Day. Guess what happened… Authorities in New Jersey confiscated 15,000 pairs of fake Nike sneakers, in a major bust on counterfeit goods. The kicks were worth $1 million. Wow… FYI, SampleSaleShop.com will NOT be selling any fake sneakers.
